IUM to expand its Presence in Erongo Region
IUM and the Walvis Bay Municipality recently expressed intent to collaborate in efforts to strengthen tertiary education at the coastal towns.
The University intends to transform the Swakopmund Campus into a Research, Consultancy and Short Courses Centre of high repute while the Walvis Bay campus will be the coastal regional academic campus. The regional Campus will be bigger and better equipped to accommodate a bigger student population as it will cater for Swakopmund, Henties Bay, Arandis, and Walvis Bay towns.
In his statement read by Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kingo Mchombu, the IUM Founder, Dr. David Namwandi, highlighted that although IUM has been operating in Walvis Bay on a relatively small scale, the demand for its market-driven programmes is such that the University needs to look ahead and expand its offerings.
“Not only are we looking at providing quality Higher Education for the Erongo Region, but we know that Walvis Bay in particular, is very accessible to potential students from SADC and beyond,’ the Founder said. Her Worship the Deputy Mayor of Walvis Bay, Hilka Erastus, as the head of the delegation representing the Mayor indicated that the expansion of the IUM in the Erongo region will enable more children to have access to tertiary education. This will further enhance Walvis Bay to become the Port City that it aspires to be as well as improve the socio-economic status of the region at large.
