The much-anticipated 3rd Edition of the David Namwandi Marathon, a not-for-profit event dedicated to uplifting lives and giving back to the community, was successfully held on 5 April 2025 at the IUM Dorado Campus in Windhoek.
This iconic national gathering brought together over 300 participants from across Namibia, representing both High Schools and University-level categories. The overwhelming turnout reaffirmed the marathon’s growing status as a flagship community-driven event that champions health, resilience, unity and social impact.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr. Iyaloo Shiimi, IUM Governing Council Member, offered words of encouragement to the participants, highlighting the benefits of engaging in sporting activities. She urged participants to seize the opportunities offered by DNT and similar organizations with both hands and make the most of them. Furthermore, she expressed heartfelt appreciation for the life and profound legacy of Hon. Prof. Dr. David R. Namwandi, whose acts of philanthropy transcend our time and continue to uplift generations to come.
The David Namwandi Trust (DNT), a non-profit organisation, has over the years provided scholarships and financial empowerment to individuals and organisations with viable and bankable projects, regardless of their institutional affiliation.
“We are Namibians first, before institutions came.” Prof. Namwandi emphasised during the official opening of the IUM 2025 Academic Year. He reiterated that the DNT does not discriminate, but rather operates on the tenets of sustainable national support, striving to assist Namibia as a whole.
This year’s event also carried a deep humanitarian spirit, whereby children who could not afford running shoes were gifted proper footwear, ensuring that no child was left behind.
Indeed, the DNT continues to live up to its billing that:
“With the little we have, we share.”
Long live Hon. Prof. Dr. David R. Namwandi!
