Description of the Qualification
The purpose of this qualification is to provide opportunity to the deserving students from IUM and other universities who have successfully completed Master’s Degree programme in various fields of Transport and Logistics management as well as related fields, and who fulfill the requirements for admission to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Transport and Logistics Management.
The Ph.D. in Transport and Logistics Management is designed to foster the intellectual, specialized, and practical competences and skills necessary for acquiring, interpreting, comprehending, and applying concepts of management and regulation. In the area of transport and Logistics Management, the student should hone their research, writing, and creative thinking abilities. The student has to be able to make strategic decisions regarding the transportation industry and examine and evaluate any internal or external actions that have an effect on this industry. The student should be able to analyze and evaluate the impact of his or her managerial choices in the context of overall transport and Logistics Management and regulation. The thesis needs to be a reflection of the author’s expertise and understanding of the topic of Transport and Logistics Management.
By engaging at the highest levels in research and analysis to produce new knowledge and solutions to scenarios at local, regional, and international contexts, the introduction of this PhD program at IUM will assist Namibia and other African nations in transitioning from being consumers of knowledge in the global arena to comparable, competitive, and innovative creators of knowledge. As a result, it will support Namibia’s and other African countries’ ability to compete and remain comparable as leaders and partners around the world. In order to offer suitable solutions to problems and scenarios being encountered at local, regional, and continental levels, it is crucial to have individuals who can engage in the highest levels of study and analysis. This will significantly aid in the achievement of National Development Plans (NDPs), Vision 2030 and other national socio-economic goals.
Students will be expected to demonstrate mastery of knowledge on their topic of inquiry as contained in existing literature, critical skills, and competencies in generating new knowledge about their topic of enquiry; capability to use analytical and critical skills in carrying out research; analyzing and presenting data generated to examine current and predominant paradigms; and add contributions of high value to this wealth of knowledge, including developing new paragraphs. Additionally, through scholarly publications, presentations at information-sharing platforms, and other types of networking, the certification trains students to share their knowledge with multiple groups of knowledge users and practitioners.
Admission / Entry Requirements
To be admitted to this qualification, a student must have successfully completed Master’s Degree in Transport and Logistics Management or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 9.
