About the Faculty

The FEST offers various exciting qualifications in different areas of environment, tourism, sustainable transport and green logistics at different levels such as Certificate, Diplomas, Bachelor Honours, Post-graduate Diplomas, Masters Degrees and PhDs, in order to meet the demands of several professions.

CES’s Vision is to be a leading national research center in environment, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and sustainable development in the region by enhancing sustainable future through laborious and conscientious advanced research, educational training and knowledge transfer programme.

CES’s Mission

  • To develop, educate and train students, professionals and scholars in environmental related studies;
  • To actively engage in knowledge sharing through community engagements, awareness campaigns, guiding and leading community and relevant stakeholders in adopting environmentally conscious and friendly initiatives;
  • To educate the public on the importance of natural resources management, environmental sustainability and conservation practices;
  • To create a platform for productive and innovative collaborations amongst scholars of different disciplines in pursuing excellent multi-disciplinary research in environmental related field and sustainable development.

Mr. Sioni Iikela

DEAN BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Sioni Iikela have over 14 years combined experience in the field of Natural Resources Management. He is currently working at the International University of Management (IUM) as Dean for Faculty of Environment and Sustainable Tourism. He served as a Director of Centre for Environmental Studies, as well as a Director of Research and Consultancy in IUM. Before that, he worked at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resource as a Senior Fisheries Research Technician until March 2020. Furthermore, Mr. Iikela served in the Sustainable Development Advisory Council from 2012 to 2019, which is a body responsible for advising the minister of Environment and Tourism by then. He spent many years in public space as a young political leader and headed the department that deal with environmental, population and health issues. In addition, he is serving as a voluntary director of Namibia Environmental Protection Trust, an NGO advocating for conservation of biodiversity and sustainable utilization of natural resources.

Mr. Iikela is a holder of a Master of Integrated Water Resources Management from Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). Furthermore, he hold a Bachelor of Technology in Nature Conservation from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and a Diploma in Natural Resources Management (Nature Conservation) from NUST. He is currently reading towards Doctor of Philosophy in Integrated Natural Resource Management, with research topic: Assessment of impacts, regulations and rehabilitation of sand and gravel mining pits in the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin, Namibia. Mr. Iikela is a firm believer in continuous growth and transformation both for organizations and on an individual level!
