About the Faculty

Welcome to the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The ICT Faculty is dedicated to providing a range of programmes that equips graduates with innovative skills to operate at international standards in the Information and Communication Technology Industry. The faculty offers PhD, Master’s, Bachelor honours and Bachelor Degrees. It also offers Stand-alone programmes. The faculty delivers these degrees and stand-alone programmes through its two departments: Information Systems & Software Development and Electronics & Communications Systems.

The PhD, Masters, Bachelor Honours and Bachelor degree programmes that the Faculty offer are PhD in Information Communication Technology, Master of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor Honours Degree in Electronics (with specialisations in Telecommunication, Instrumentation, Electrical, Control Systems, Computer Science, Computing Systems), Bachelor Honours Degree in Digital Communication Technology, Bachelor Honours Degree in Software Development, Bachelor Honours Degree in Business Information Systems, Bachelor Degree in Software Development and Bachelor Degree in Business Information Systems. For the Stand-Alone programmes, the faculty delivers Certificate in Business Information Systems and Diploma in Business Information Systems.

These qualifications are designed to make a positive contribution to hardware, software, network and electronics design to improve management of performance and or problem solving. It is also concerned with the education and training of young Information, Technology, Electronics engineers and Communications managers who can help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of management in public and private sectors.

In general, the African continent finds it difficult to narrow the digital divide compared to developed nations. Namibia is not an exception with regards to the digital divide. To bridge this gap, the faculty’s qualifications are designed to make a strong, relevant and practical contribution to Information, technology, electronics engineering and Communications field and also provide a very strong Science & Technology foundation for the people of Namibia in line with Vision 2030.

Graduates of the Faculty are equipped with skills in Information and Communication Technology that enables them to improve and contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of small, medium and large organisations.

DEAN’S WELCOMING REMARKS

On behalf of lecturers and students in the faculty, I am delighted to welcome you to the faculty. Being an Information and Communication Technology Faculty within a Management and Information Communication Technology University provides a tremendous opportunity for our students to progress into young managers of the future in a communications-Technological rich environment. This faculty train students to use digital communication technology to improve on businesses. The emphasis of programmes in the faculty is on technical and managerial skills within a technical environment. The programmes emphasise topics in Information Technology, Communications, Electronics, Electricals, Instrumentation, Control and Systems Development. The faculty produce engineers and Technology experts that are of the highest calibre, who are second to none. In the faculty, focus is on activities which are critical to Namibia and/or the region.

Our faculty student focus – students are at the heart of our academic and vocational purpose as a faculty. Faculty members ensure that students are as comfortable as they can be during their stay in IUM. Faculty members in collaboration with business leaders, use all resources at their disposal to develop unique competitive challenges for students to demonstrate and showcase an understanding of analysing and solving problems using Information/Digital Communication Technology.

DEAN BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Timoteus Ashipala Sheepo is the acting Dean of the faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from January 2023 and prior to his appointment as acting Dean, he was a Senior Lecturer & Distance and eLearning Centre Director. He served as a youth sub-committee Chair Person for Namibia annual ICT Summit preparatory committee; Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Windhoek Namibia in 2018. Mr Timoteus Ashipala Sheepo has a passion for Research and as a result has published over 6 publications. He has also co-supervised project works of 3 master’s degree students and has supervised over 30 undergraduate degree students.

Mr. Timoteus Ashipala Sheepo Holds an MBA Degree in Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business information Systems from the International University of Management and he is currently completing work toward his PhD Degree in Information and Communication Technology specializing in Data Analytics. His career accomplishments include vast experience in the area of Business Intelligence, Business Process Reengineering, Data analytics, Educational Technologies, Ecommerce, Enterprise Resource Planning Systems, Project management, Mobile App Development, Systems Analysis and Design, Object Oriented Programming, Leadership and Change Management, and Supply Chain Management.
