IUM held its official opening of the academic year 2024 on Thursday, 7 March 2024 which was celebrated under the theme “The year of diligence and concerted efforts towards achieving our set goals”.
The IUM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Osmund D. Mwandemele, in his welcoming remark stated that IUM (this year only) have enrolled more than 19,100 students which represents an increase of about 21% over the 2023 student enrollment figure. “As demonstrated by the increased student enrollment numbers for the academic year 2024, the International University of Management is indeed a university of choice, and a preferred destination for many students coming from within Namibia, the SADC region and beyond”, said Prof. Mwandemele.
Delivering the keynote address by Hon. Prof. David R. Namwandi, Founder and Chairman of the Governing Council who noted that IUM under his philosophy is here to create a nation of great thinkers and achievers.
Hon. Prof. Namwandi further announced that in terms of infrastructure IUM is growing in leaps and bounds with construction for a Research, Training and Conference Centre in Swakopmund nearing completion. This, he said, will offer opportunities for our youth, researchers and trainers alike to enhance their academic activities. Equally construction of a new state of the art campus at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region is in the final stages of completion. He also revealed that there are plans to establish campuses in Okahao and Walvis Bay, while the Ongwediva campus will undergo extensive extension.
Speaking on behalf of the Student Leadership Ms. Loide Nghuulongo, IUM SRC President emphasized on the importance of student unity. Stating that “It is through collaboration and to togetherness that we could create a vibrant and dynamic student community that thrives and create the best university experience and memories”.
As an academic institution of university status, research and innovation, teaching/learning and community engagement continue to be IUM’s core business. IUM will continue to invest in all the above areas as long as funds allow, and staff members are urged to take up opportunities when they arise and use research to drive innovation and improve teaching and learning.
