IUM Libraries Advance in Engaging Users Beyond Walls

The Dorado and City Libraries successfully held a two-days information sharing and awareness on the variety of services offered across all libraries and different available information resources essential for students, lecturers and staff.  The event was held on the 14th-15th August 2024. This interactive community-centered information sharing and awareness session was aimed at promoting valuable information resources and services offered by IUM Libraries to all its end users.

The session kicked off with radio sessions at IUM Radio and followed by an exhibition and execution of activities such as Training, Games (30 second & the Africa challenge), Question & Answer sessions where participants won some library promotional materials. Without a doubt, Libraries can be seen to have evolved over the past few years and this move has amplified their roles in providing lifelong learning for the communities they serve. In view of the above, the act of rendering services in libraries have shifted from passive to active engagement with community members and IUM Librarians are definitely not lagging behind in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment and advancing in adopting  different approaches to engage with their users.

This event directly resonates with the Libraries mandate to support education, learning and research, library staff remains committed to realizing each one of these goals. The outcome of this event saw a total of 210 students registered as library new members while 96 students were trained on referencing and information search and access of peer reviewed information from different databases both within and off Campus and lastly 37 students were registered as Knowledge ambassadors. The Library Department hereby extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Marketing, ICT and all participants that helped to make this event a resounding success.
