Qualification description:

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (NQF Level 8) is developed to equip students with good pedagogical practices in the design, delivery and assessment of the revised Namibian school curriculum. The qualification also aims to equip participants with critical self-reflection in relation to current international trends and challenges in pedagogy. It enables students to become familiar with the delivery of curricula to a variety of learners, through several forms of delivery, in a wide range of contexts. Therefore, students completing this qualification will acquire theoretical and practical pedagogical methodologies that can be applied in the art of imparting knowledge and skills (teaching and learning processes) under different contexts. With this qualification, these teachers will be professional qualified to undertake teaching assignments in both the private and public schools. Moreover, this qualification will equip the teachers with the right tools to fulfil their true potential and to become defining players in the education system.

The qualification was developed and endorsed in consultation with various key stakeholders in education such as; the National Institute for Educational Development (NIED) the Namibia National Teachers Union (NANTU), University of Namibia (UNAM), Namibia College of Open Learning (NAMCOL), Sunshine College and Alumni of the qualification as well as current students who are enrolled in the qualification.

Admission/Entry requirements

To be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Level 8) a candidate must hold a minimum of a recognized Bachelor degree at NQF Level 7 or equivalent. The undergraduate record must demonstrate that the candidate acquired the content knowledge of two (2) school subjects during three consecutive years of studies at a higher education institution.

Career opportunities

Study the Post Graduate Diploma in Education to become a professional qualified Secondary school teacher to undertake teaching assignments in both the private and public schools. Other career opportunities include becoming the Head of Department, Education officers, Senior Education Officers and Chief Education officers for the specific subject areas.
