POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Qualification description:

The Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (NQF Level 8) is developed to address the needs of the higher education sector in Namibia as articulated in the Namibia’s 5th National Development Plan (NDP5) and National Human Resources Plan 2010-2025. The focus is to contribute to the production of professionally qualified teachers who are able to interpret and implement the curriculum in a holistic way as innovative educators, instructional leaders, planners, counsellors and researchers.  Therefore, the purpose of the Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (Level 8) is to support educators and provide them with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies they need to teach in higher education by providing students with critical pedagogies in relation to current international trends and challenges in higher education. The qualification was developed and endorsed in consultation with both public and private higher education institutions as key stakeholders such as the University of Namibia (UNAM), National Institute for Educational Development (NIED), Namibia College of Open Learning (NAMCOL), Sunshine Private College and Namibia National Teachers’ Union (NANTU).

The duration of the qualification is a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years both for part-time and distance mode.

Admission requirements

To be admitted into this qualification candidate must hold a recognized minimum qualification at NQF Level 7 as a full-time lecturer, trainer, tutor or instructor at a tertiary institution, institution of higher learning or organization training departments or equivalent, subject to approval by faculty postgraduate admission Committee.

Study this course and become a professional qualified a full-time lecturer, trainer, tutor or instructor at a tertiary institution, institution of higher learning or organization training departments or equivalent.  Upon completion of this qualification students will be able to articulate to Master of Education level 9.
