Track, Triumph, and Tenacity: Unpacking the Journey to Athletic Stardom of Jade Nangula, a Student and Senior Librarian at IUM

It is the work of God that, repeatedly, at the perfect moment, a game changer is brought into the world
with the capacity to alter the course of history in unimaginable ways.

Namibia has been no exception, as throughout history, the nation has been graced with extraordinary athletes like Frank Fredericks.
Today, stars like Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi continue to shine on the global stage. But
now, rising from the shadows, there’s a new force to be reckoned with—a name that will soon echo
across the athletics world: Jade Nangula. A star in the making, ready to redefine what it means to compete, conquer and inspire.

Jade Nangula is both a Senior Librarian and a master’s student at IUM, as well as a dedicated Namibian national athlete from Otavi in the Otjozondjupa region. Although she was introduced to sports at a young age, her commitment to competitive athletics truly solidified in 2019 when she met her coach, Mr. Erwin Naimhwaka. In interviewing her, it becomes clear that her journey has been that of a fearless warrior, characterized by consistent hard work, relentless training and unyielding self-belief. She has dedicated herself to improving her competition times while expertly balancing academics, work and athletics.

Among some of her accomplishments are:
• Being crowned the 200m National Champion in 2023.
• Competing at the 2024 African Games (Ghana) and the 2024 African Championships
(Cameroon), as well as the Botswana Continental Tour, Botswana Nationals and Mozambique
Nationals.

Most recently, Jade Nangula was selected as part of a Namibian athletics team that participated in the
Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix II 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she finished
2nd in a highly competitive field with a blistering time of 11.81 seconds in the 100m.

IUM believes that a balanced life is key to success and as the saying goes, “All work and no play makes
life dull.” While academic and professional excellence are paramount, the university also recognises
the importance of extracurricular activities in fostering personal growth and well-being. IUM
encourages its staff and students to engage in sports, cultural events and other activities outside of work
and study, empowering them to develop holistically. By supporting this balance, IUM ensures that its
people can excel not only in their careers but also in their passions and dreams beyond the lecture halls
or workplace.

Jade Nangula has this powerful message for the Namibian girl child:
“Your dreams are valid and your potential is limitless. God placed that dream in your heart because
it’s meant to be achieved. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve greatness, whether it’s in
sports, academics or any other field. Always believe in yourself, put in the work and stay dedicated.
Challenges will come, but resilience and self-belief will carry you through.
Psalm 46:5 – ‘God is within her, she will not fall.”

All the best, Jade Nangula!
Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into becoming a part of Namibian history, and for painting such a positive story about our country.
The IUM family and all Namibians eagerly look forward to seeing you shine at the World Athletics
Championships and the Olympics. Keep reaching for greatness!
