Namibia Hosts National Round of Global HackAtom 2025

The Global HackAtom 2025 is a prestigious 24-hour international student hackathon powered by Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom. This global event invites undergraduate and postgraduate students organized in teams of up to five to tackle real-world challenges facing the nuclear industry. Participants are tasked with designing innovative, technology-driven solutions that demonstrate both technical skill and creative thinking.

From 16 – 17 July 2025, Namibia proudly hosted its national stage of the competition at the University of Namibia (UNAM). The Namibian edition placed a unique emphasis on the country’s geological landscape and uranium mining practices. A total of 13 multidisciplinary teams from local institutions including UNAM, the International University of Management (IUM), and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) participated in this intellectually demanding challenge. Over the course of 24 hours, teams developed IT-based solutions focused on improving nuclear technologies and industry processes. The International University of Management (IUM) earned an impressive second-place finish, showcasing the institution’s growing reputation for excellence in innovation, collaborative problem-solving, and global engagement in science and technology.

The winning teams will travel to Rosatom’s partner universities in Moscow, Russia in September 2025, where they will engage with top professors, experience Russian traditions and culture, and network with fellow students from around the world.
