The David Namwandi Trust Fund (DNT) Empowers Forgotten Marginalised Communities Through Sustainable Philanthropy, While IUM Alumni Association Brings Hope Through Christmas Food Support

Yesterday, 18 November 2025, the David Namwandi Trust (DNT) and the IUM Alumni Association held a dual donation event at the Graduate School of Business. DNT proudly handed over school uniforms and computers to Muzii Combined School in the Zambezi Region, while the IUM Alumni Association generously gifted early Christmas food parcels to the John Pandeni Constituency.

During his welcoming remarks, IUM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Osmund Mwandemele, highlighted that a total of 75 food parcels had been secured, valued at over N$28,000, and were set to benefit vulnerable children in the John Pandeni Constituency, as well as other at-risk communities in the northern regions. “By donating Christmas essentials to the needy, this initiative serves as a corporate social responsibility effort that touches lives, spreads joy and brings hope,” said Prof. Mwandemele.

IUM Founder and Council Chair, Hon. Prof. David Namwandi, emphasized the spirit of giving behind the Christmas Drive initiative. “This donation is not from IUM as an institution, but from the products of IUM—our alumni. The little we have is not ours alone, but it must be shared with the community,” said Hon. Prof. Namwandi.

Prof. Dr. David Namwandi further proposed a sustainable initiative in which 500,000 people will make a monthly contribution of N$500. This collective fund, which could potentially be managed by the government or a selected private organization, will create a significant pool of resources to finance projects addressing the urgent challenges of poverty, hunger, and unemployment in the country.

The donation to Muzii Combined School was received by Ms. Kondjela Nghipundju, a Life Skills teacher, who expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the school. “This contribution comes at a time when Muzii stands at the crossroads of immense need and unwavering hope. Its impact will shape futures, strengthen hope, and uplift a community that has long felt unseen,” she said.

Hon. John Moonde, Chairperson of the Khomas Regional Council and Councillor for the John Pandeni Constituency, also expressed sincere appreciation for the food parcels. “Although there is a food bank program in place, it is not enough to feed everyone. Urban hunger is often worse than rural hunger due to unemployment. Many times, we dig into our own pockets to help families in need. This support will make a real difference,” he noted.
