IUM Establishes School of Energy Resources Management, Technology Development, and Innovation(SERMTDI)

IUM is a listening and ever-evolving institution, dedicated to providing industry-relevant qualifications that drive national economic growth and enhance societal well-being. One of the most escalating global issues is the management of climate change, a challenge that requires innovative and sustainable solutions to ensure a resilient future.

To address the impact of climate change, it is crucial for Namibia to eliminate its dependence on fossil
fuels, which now serves as the primary cause of the escalating catastrophe. Cognisant that the
technology is currently available IUM is of the view that this must be implemented rapidly and on a
significant magnitude. It is on this basis that IUM has now established the School of Energy Resources
Management, Technology Development, and Innovation (SERMTDI), which will introduce energy
qualifications to facilitate the acceleration of much-needed positive changes address the country’s
renewable energy needs.

The envisaged qualifications will expose individuals to highly desirable skills, which will provide them with
various employment opportunities and a profession that is resilient to future developmental needs.
Therefore, IUM is pleased to announce the introduction of new and exciting qualifications in energy to
respond to skills needs for clean energy needs such as hydrogen, as well the emerging industry of oil
and gas:

1. Certificate in Energy Management (Level 5)
2. Diploma in Energy Systems and Climate Change (Level 6)
3. Bachelor of Science in Energy Development and Management Honours
4. Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health and Safety Honours
5. Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Studies
6. Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Law and Policy
7. Master of Science in Energy Specialisations:
a) Economics and Financing b) Oil and Gas Management
8. Master of Science in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing
9. Master of Business Administration in Oil, Gas and Energy Management
10. Master of Science in Energy and Environmental Law
11. Master of Philosophy in Occupational Health and Safety
12. PhD in Energy Resources and Technologies
