IUM Graduate School of Business Launch

The IUM Graduate School of Business was officially inaugurated by Hon. Prof. Dr. David R. Namwandi on the 3rd of October 2024, marking a significant milestone in IUM’s journey towards educational empowerment and leadership. In a profound and powerful reflection on the spirit of Lectureship, Hon. Prof. Dr. David R. Namwandi shared insights on the historical roots of Graduate Schools of Business, setting the stage for the role the IUM Graduate School of Business aims to play in Namibia’s future.

Understanding the Roots of Business Education

While business education is often associated with the United States, particularly with Harvard Business School, the actual origins trace further back. Harvard Business School, founded in 1908, indeed established the first MBA (Master of Business Administration) program, securing its place in history as a leader in graduate business education. However, the concept of the business school itself originated much earlier. In 1819, the École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP) was founded by a group of forward-thinking economists and business professionals, including figures like Félix Neff, setting the stage for formal business education as we know it today.
